My quilt design "Cottage Garden" is now available as a free download on Andover's website. I designed this quilt for their new fabric line Cologne and Cotton by Renée Nanneman. It's a beautiful vintage inspired fabric line with soft, muted colors. I hope you enjoy it! Send me a link to pics if you make it, I would love to see what you do with it!

There seems to be a friendly war brewing between the two ideological factions of the quilting world. Which is better, modern or traditional? I just got back from a trip to New York City where I had the opportunity to visit both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. Each museum held it's own unique experience and brought inspiration and appreciation for many different art forms and styles. Whether I was standing before an ancient marble statue of Hercules or a giant Jackson Pollack, I was equally in awe and saw the beauty and artistic intention of each artist.
When I received the opportunity to design a quilt around the theme "Where Traditional Meets Modern" for the Quilt St. George Retreat, I was excited to explore the meeting of these worlds. I started with a traditional Irish chain motif on the left side of the quilt and started to deconstruct the geometric elements transitioning to the modern style on the right side. This quilt is a celebration of the beauty of both traditional and modern quilting and where we can all meet in the middle in appreciating and understanding the other side. This quilt will be on display at Quilt St. George this January 14-17, 2014. Classes are still available and you can register here. It was pieced by Marian Gallian of Pink Hippo Quilts and quilted in both traditional and modern quilting styles by Kathryn Carbine.
As part of the Quilt St. George Blog Hop, I am giving away this fabulous tote from my Society6 store featuring my art print "Bella" to one lucky winner. Simply like my Facebook page between now and January 9th and leave a comment below on your thoughts about modern vs. traditional quilt design. I will select a winner randomly and notify them on January 10th.
Congratulations to Carolyn on winning the Bella tote! Thank you to everyone for your comments and likes.
